EU-funded projects convene for inaugural networking event

NEWS / 13 JUN 2024

Research projects exploring the relationship between infections and Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) came together for a valuable networking event hosted by the Health & Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA) of the European Commission.

The virtual event, held on 17 May 2024, provided an important platform for the project teams to foster collaboration, share best practices, and identify potential synergies.

The Horizon Europe Health Cluster’s 2023-DISEASE-03-07 call topic aims to support research investigating the links between infectious diseases and the development or progression of NCDs. The funded projects are exploring a range of areas, including the role of Epstein-Barr virus in multiple sclerosis, the impact of respiratory syncytial virus on chronic lung diseases, and the long-term effects of COVID-19 infection on cardiovascular and respiratory health.

The networking event’s agenda included project team presentations, as well as guidance and support services from HaDEA and the European Medicines Agency. Breakout sessions allowed participants to delve deeper into specific topics, discuss potential synergies, and plan next steps for joint activities.

“The POINT project, which is focused on preventing non-communicable diseases caused by the post-acute phase of COVID-19, benefited greatly from the opportunity to connect with other teams working on similar challenges,” said Claus Desler, the coordinator of the POINT project. “We look forward to exploring synergistic collaboration opportunities and future joint projects that could lead to more impactful outcomes for patients.”

This inaugural networking event marks the first in a series planned for projects funded under the Horizon Europe Health Cluster. Future events will bring together researchers working on the same topics, fostering cross-project collaboration and knowledge-sharing to advance the European Commission’s healthcare research agenda.
